Singh’s inspiring journey from a Chief Engineer in the Merchant Navy to the founder of BP Marine Academy showcases resilience, visionary leadership, and a deep commitment to safety and excellence in maritime training.

Born in Udaipur and raised in Bhilwara, R.C. Singh’s fascination with the sea led him to pursue a BSc in Mechanical Engineering. His career as a Chief Engineer spanned nearly two decades, during which he mastered marine engineering and navigated the challenges of life at sea. However, a life-altering incident in 1993, where a freak wave off the coast of Cape Town caused severe injuries, became a turning point in his life. Despite a long recovery and a permanent disability, Singh’s indomitable spirit led him to establish BP Marine Academy in 1997, using the compensation from the accident to fund the venture.

Under Singh’s leadership, BP Marine Academy has grown into a premier maritime training institution, offering a wide range of courses approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, and the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA), Government of the UK. The academy’s facilities include advanced training aids, a fully air-conditioned library, and comprehensive practical demonstration equipment, ensuring that students receive the highest quality education aligned with global standards.

Singh’s contributions extend beyond education; his philanthropic efforts, amounting to nearly 27 crores in financial assistance, have benefited economically disadvantaged individuals and supported various charitable and religious organizations. His commitment to social welfare is as profound as his dedication to maritime education.

Recognized for his outstanding contributions, Singh has received numerous accolades, including the “Pride of India” award, the “Best International Maritime Training Institute of the Year” award at the Asia-UK Business Meet, and multiple entries in the Limca Book of National Records. These honors reflect his leadership, innovation, and unwavering dedication to improving the safety and skills of seafarers worldwide.
